Wilson Staff Announces Next Generation in Powerful Distance Clubs: All New D-100 Family

To contact us Click HERE

Wilson Staff releases its sixth generation of award-winning D irons, from the iron brand with 61 Major wins
(CHICAGO) – Wilson Staff announced the introduction of the D-100 Family of SuperLight products. This release of the latest generation of “D” or “Distance-focused” clubs emphasizes the importance of correct weight distribution across the head, shaft and grip for The Right Light technology.

The meticulously researched and tested D-100 Irons, Drivers, Fairway Woods and Hybrids feature improvements in virtually every performance area, which will continue to fuel Wilson Staff’s market share growth.

Since their original launch within the Super Game Improvement category in 2005, D Irons have earned Hot List accolades and a loyal following. D-100 Irons build on that success to deliver unsurpassed power and accuracy.

SuperLight Technology – The Right Light
SuperLight technology infuses limited available mass to create a powerful, solid-feeling, balanced golf club, increasing club head speeds with the same swing effort for greater distance. The key to engineering The Right Light is optimizing this limited weight for proper distribution among the head, shaft and grip to achieve the best performance for each specific club.

D-100 Irons
The next generation of D Irons from Wilson Staff delivers ultimate performance-enhancing technology for players who want lightweight, easy-to-swing distance and forgiveness:
*  Large, Thin, Unsupported Face: 7% thinner iron face delivers faster ball speeds and unsurpassed distance.
*  Higher MOI: Exoskeleton technology coupled with an undercut cavity allows 35% more mass to be moved to the sole, heel and toe areas for extreme perimeter weighting and forgiveness.
*  Progressive Head Design: Optimized head proportions throughout the iron set deliver ideal launch angles, ball speeds and spin rates for each loft.

D-100 Driver
The D-100 Driver is the lightest, easiest-to-swing driver on the market. The Right Light technology delivers extraordinary head speeds resulting in greater distance:
*  SuperLight Technology: Improved, next generation of SuperLight optimizes grip, shaft and head for a combined club weight of 269 grams, enhancing the ability to swing faster with the same effort.
*  Enhanced Cup Face Design and Variable Face Thickness Technology: 9% hotter CT fires the ball with greater speed and distance. Variable thickness in the large, deep face creates an immense sweet spot for more forgiveness on off-center drives.
*  Chemically-Etched Crown: An optimized crown weight is realized by relocating non-essential weight to the sole for a lower, deeper center of gravity to heighten launch angle and increase MOI for forgiveness and more fairways hit.

D-100 Fairway Woods
D-100 Fairway Woods are among the lightest and easiest-to-swing on the market. The Right Light club technology delivers optimally-designed club mass properties for greater head speeds with the same swing effort:
*  PVD Finish: Low profile design with sleek black finish sits square and delivers ultimate confidence at address.
*  Optimized Head Mass Properties: Relocated CG 11% more toward the heel makes it easier to square the club face at impact; 8% back improves launch angle and spin rate, and through chemically-etching the crown, moving it 10% lower improves feel and launch angle.
*  Progressive Head Design: Tailored head and face sizes throughout the lofts deliver maximum forgiveness on all turf conditions.

D-100 Hybrids
Wilson Staff created the D-100 Hybrids at The Right Light to perfectly compliment the D-100 Irons and serve as a long iron replacement option:
*  Improved Distance: Easy-to-swing lightweight design and correct mass properties for ideal launch angles and spin rates generate maximum distance.
*  Rounded Sole Design: Toe and heel relief provide shot control and confidence from all course lies.
*  Progressive Design: Head size and face bulge and roll are optimized across each loft for improved distance and accuracy.

D-100 Family Shaft Technology
The SuperLight shaft technology makes every member in the D-100 Family Super Light and Seriously Long. The optimized lightweight shaft options are designed to deliver faster club head speeds that afford greater ball speeds.
D-100 Irons:
* True Temper SL85 Steel: 85 gram premium lightweight iron shaft that performs at mid-to-high launch with mid-spin.
* Matrix Studio 6.1 Graphite: 65 gram premium lightweight graphite iron shaft with mid-to-high launch and mid-spin. Features Matrix’s Tip Torsional Resistance (TTR) technology for structural stability at the top, and less shaft twisting through the club and ball impact zone.
* D-100 Driver
* Matrix OZIK HD4.1: 45 gram premium lightweight graphite shaft that performs with mid-to-high launch and mid-spin. Featuring Matrix’s proprietary HD 16-sided internal structure to provide superior performance at lighter weights.
* D-100 Fairway Woods
* Matrix OZIK HD5.1: 55 gram premium lightweight graphite shaft that performs with mid-to-high launch and mid-spin. Constructed with 16-sided internal structure HD (hexadecagonal) technology to provide head stability without adding weight.
* D-100 Hybrids
* Matrix OZIK Altus 5.6: 60 gram premium lightweight graphite shaft that performs with mid-to-high launch and mid-spin. Features proprietary TTR technology for structural stability and reduced shaft twisting through the club and ball impact zone.

“We have seen the best players in the world go to lighter and lighter shafts over the last few years, which was part of the inspiration for the D-100 SuperLight line of products,” said Michael Vrska, Global Director of Research & Development. “You can make clubs too light. That is why we are so excited about what The Right Light technology can do for golfers. It really will help the Super Game Improvement player get more distance and make the game more enjoyable. This technology makes it easier to swing the club faster with the same effort, and everybody wants more distance. As we like to say, Wilson Staff D-100 is Super Light and Seriously Long.”

Wilson Staff’s Popular DUO Golf Ball Now Available in High Visibility Yellow

Highly rated DUO golf ball gains market share due to low compression technology
(Chicago) – Wilson Golf, the pioneer of low compression golf ball technology, realized measurable success with its Wilson Staff DUO golf ball in 2012. At 40 compression, the lowest of any ball available to golfers on the market, the DUO has a significantly lower compression than its nearest rivals.

By conducting intense testing on low compression technology, the engineers at Wilson Golf succeeded in busting common myths surrounding it, and proved the fact that low compression golf balls are formulated to fly as far as high compression balls while achieving the softest feel possible. Players can extract a soft, playable feel and optimal spin that provides distance off the tee and softness around the greens.

The distance players derive from this ball can be attributed to a large, rubber rich core that allows for low compression, while maintaining a high Coefficient of Restitution of 0.81. The rubber core has a 96.3% purity level, while a thinner, higher resilience cover also helps to produce more ball velocity off the clubface.

The Wilson Staff DUO ball also delivers minimal spin off the driver face to help improve yardage, but progressively higher spin rates on approach shots give optimal control. A seamless 302 dimple pattern produces consistent ball flight, while an Ionomer cover generates high-lift characteristics on tee shots and long approaches from the fairway.

The DUO Drop Test is a challenge that encourages people to drop the DUO golf ball and any competitor ball from shoulder length at the same time, visibly portraying how much faster and higher the DUO rebounds off the surface, which implies greater initial velocity off the club face for more distance. When conducting the drop test, people can also hear the difference in sound; its quieter sound indicates a softer feel and thus more control around the greens.

“Because golfers can easily compare the benefits of the DUO with regard to other balls they have played, both by conducting the DUO Drop Test as well as testing it on the course, more and more people are spreading the word about this ball and soft compression technology,” commented Mathias Lundblad, Global Product Manager of Golf Balls. “There are reasons that the popularity of the DUO has spread like wildfire, the primary one being that once golfers try the DUO, they will never have another experience like it.”

Due to its success, the DUO golf ball line will be extended to include a DUO High Visibility Yellow option. The packaging has changed slightly but still embodies the identifiable silver box.

Devil And The Deep Blue Sea

To contact us Click HERE
It seems that Dare County Resident Superior Court Judge Jerry Tillett may have gotten himself wedged between the "devil and the deep blue sea" over certain judicial (?) actions he took in connection with the Kill Devil Hills police officers/police chief/town administrators' fiasco that has appeared in the news during much of  2012.

The "devil" in this case could be described as the North Carolina Court of Appeals, with the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission possibly taking up the role as the "deep blue sea". And, if one reads the facts, or purported facts, of this matter closely, it would not be hard to imagine that Tillett might be very worried about keeping his head above the water.

According to a blogpost currently appearing on SunshineOBX, Tillett, through his attorney Norm Shearin of the local firm Vandeveter Black, has appealed the state appeals court's ruling that he (Tillett) lacked jurisdiction in most aspects of his involvement and handling of the aforementioned matter (you can read the details here).

What makes the entire matter so unsavory, in the opinion of this writer, is the fact that an earlier incident, involving the Kill Devil Hills police and Tillett's son (routine matter/no charges filed) is presumed by many, including some town officials, to have caused the whole problem in the first place. Whether this is true or not, depends on whether one believes the long list of affidavits filed by the various parties involved.

Added to the above is the fact that the town's attorney (now former town attorney), during the thick of this matter, was none other than Dan Merrell, a close friend and former law partner of Tillett. Now, try salting that with the purported statements that Tillett and Merrell took a cruise together during the fiasco, followed or preceded by one town official's opinion that Merrell seemed to be representing Tillett more than his own employer, the Town of Kill Devil Hills. Finally, throw in the statement included in one affidavit where Merrell purportedly said..."This is about his son. Dan Merrell then stated that Judge Tillett was not going to let it go.”...and it becomes very easy to see why this matter has become so distasteful.

Finally, if Judge Tillett is, in fact, guilty of judicial misconduct and rightfully concerned about any investigation of his actions by the Judicial Standards Commission, then, arguably it is little wonder that he has filed his appeal with the higher state court.  For it's in his best interest to prove that he has been the one who was "aggrieved" rather that him (Tillett) being the "aggrieve(or)".  Time will tell. Maybe.

Nags Head..."Time to Fess Up"

To contact us Click HERE
Isn't it time the Nags Head Board of Commissioners "fessed up" and admitted their $36 million nourishment project simply isn't performing as well as expected? Instead, the board continually hides behind their coastal engineer who tells them most of the sand is out there in the ocean
and protecting the beach, or what's left of the beach. This writer has walked Nags Head's winter beaches 100's of times over the past 30 years as he did yesterday. The fact is that 70% of the beach has no more sand or width than most Decembers past. Meanwhile, oceanfront property owners are getting ready to make their second of five annual payments (16 cents tax increase) to help pay for the project.
To Mayor Bob Oakes, EOD says, "Tell us Mr. Mayor, is there really any more sand behind your oceanfront home today than there was three Decembers ago?"

Comfort Inn & Jennettes Pier yesterday, three hours after
low tide. At high tide waves came to within 50 feet of motel.

Conch Street and Nags Head Fishing Pier. Beach there at
mid tide is no wider than most Decembers prior to beach
nourishment.

Once again, the ocean encroaches upon
cottages just off Seagull in south Nags
Head. Beach where, after nourishment the

ref: Beach Nourishment Project

I have spent some time reading your town (Nags Head) engineer's June and November 2012 Survey Reports, strictly from the viewpoint of a novice (I'll admit).

First, may I say, it is my belief that, in the court of public opinion regarding this nourishment project, most people, including myself, will judge its success by the amount of sand that remains on the "visible beach" from the time the project was completed, forward. The engineer can tell me all day long how much nourishment sand is laying out in the ocean off the immediate beach, but I didn't expect him to nourish the ocean bottom, just like he didn't try to convince me or you that the near shore of the beach, out to 12 feet and beyond, needed over 1,000,000 cubic yards more sand to the tune of $8.00+ per cubic yard. But, that's exactly what happened. Furthermore, I am totally confused as to how much sand was already in this zone "before the nourishment project started". Did the engineer explain this to the town council?

Anyway, as I said, my impression of the success or failure of the project (as to the sand remaining on the beach) will always be focused on how much sand remains on the visible beach. And, to me "visible" means what I can "see with my semi-educated eye...after spending many, many years on Nags Head's winter beaches. In my opinion, over 70% of the sand which was first placed on the visible beach in the overall project area, is no longer on the visible beach. It means little to me how much of that sand now lays out in the ocean. There has always been ample sand laying out in the ocean, and in fact, the water just off your town beach now appears deeper to me (and most people) than it was before nourishment, which begs to question the engineer's claim that the nourishment sand is laying safely in the near shore, in addition to sand that was already out there in the water. If so, wouldn't this make the water shallower?

Anyway, it appears to me, that the engineer's survey is trying to tell you that, as of November 2012, 62.3% of the original sand placed on the "visible beach" from the foredune to MLW (mean low water) is STILL IN PLACE. I disagree. In my opinion 62.3% to 70% of that sand is GONE FROM THE BEACH, and that's an average.

Interestingly, the November 2012 report also shows this same zone lost an additional 15% of its visible sand during the five month period from June/November 2012.

I suggest the Town of Nags Head should require the engineer to do his two surveys with one during the summer months and one during the winter months, e.g. June and January, or better yet, hire out an independent survey of the post nourishment project.

Seriously, Bob, I rode the Nags Head beach via my 4x4 this past week and saw very little difference in the beach from the Epstien tract north and the section south of the Outer Banks Pier. In addition, the oceanfront immediately east of the Comfort Inn shows continuous signs of wanting to erode to back to where it was prior to nourishment.

In closing, the statement by the engineer that the foredune has gained sand due to overwash and wind is true, and, in my opinion not fair to those who paid their hard earn dollars to fund this project, only to have people ignore removing sandbags and in some cases, not giving easements. Still, they benefited from overwash and windblown sand as much as everyone else. The engineer knew this would happen and so did the property owners who refused to remove their sandbags. It stinks and the town did little to stop it...JMO.

View Of The Sound As The Sun Goes Down

video

There's a fun time to be had while you are on the Outer Banks! This video clip was taken during a short kayak trip on the soundside of the beach. We're famous for our watersports--kiteboarding, fishing, kayaking, jet skiing and more.

There are also great historic programs going on at the beach as well. Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station has "Porch Programs" going on all summer at 2 pm. For instance on Tuesdays there a talk given on "Amazing True & Local Wreck Rescue Stories." And on Thursdays the ever-popular "Beach Apparatus Drill" with the US Coast Guard re-creates the famous "Breeches Buoy" Rescue--and is only 1 of 2 spots in America to do so (and we're the only one to have active Coast Guard personnel in our rescue).

Of course you can always just laze the day away in the sun too. That's what most visitors seem to enjoy. Or take a day trip and drive south towards Hatteras and grab some lunch before visiting the Lighthouse, there's a nice seashore there where you can take a respite...then jump on the free ferry to Ocracoke and visit the quaint fishing village with fine local shopping and restaurants.

And if you are on a budget, take advantage of our great special offers at our various properties at: obxlodging.com. We have cottages, guest rooms and suites with full kitchens---the whole gamut for something for 1 person to something for 18!
