Reporting from the Kill Devil Hills polls today, EOD had an interesting discussion with one of Allen Burrus's poll workers. Jack Painter of Avon said he thought Hatteras Island should pull away from Dare County, join Ocracoke Island, and form its own county. "It would take the approval of the General Assembly, but it can be done," said Painter. Burrus, who is running for re-election against Kevin Gray Conner was not available for comment. He stopped by the KDH polls for about ten minutes and then scurried off. One poll worker said, "That's the first time anyone has seen Burrus out campaigning this season".
EOD wonders if Burrus feels the same way about Dare County proper. If so, perhaps he should make himself clear. Or, as Burrus likes to say, give us your "thought process" on the matter.
