Open for Discussion on Hatteras Island leaving Dare County(See Reader's Poll) A major supporter of County Commissioner Allen Burrus suggested yesterday, secession might be a good idea for the residents of Hatteras Island when EOD asked him why some or all of the villages didn't incorporate, tax themselves for the extra services they desire, and have more control over their local government, like the six towns on the northern Outer Banks. The supporter's response was ..."The people on Hatteras Island contribute far more to the state and county coffers than they get back in services"   Frankly, EOD is getting of tired of hearing this "worn out cliche", not only from Hatteras, but from the rest of Dare County's politicians and business people. Furthermore, he's about got to the point where he wouldn't give a hoot if the folks on Hatteras Island blew up the Bonner Bridge and sunk every ferry boat on the Outer Banks.  That's about it....for now.
